Where We Come From
The Founder of Lepton Silk, Ms Maggie Wu, was born and grew up in Hangzhou, China.
This city is widely known as the origin of silk. Thousands years ago, people in this area started domesticating silkworms and transforming cocoons into clothing. Early in the Han Dynasty (206 BC - 220 AD), Hangzhou silk was introduced to foreign countries via the Silk Road.
Hangzhou Silk Industry
Hangzhou silk is famous for its soft texture, shiny color, and fine, smooth feel. Nowadays, factories in Hangzhou city produce almost 80% of the silk products in the world, including those top brands. Workers who sew silk should be very experienced because a little mistake would ruin a good and expensive fabric. However, even though they are experienced, but not well paid. Statistic says, in this industry, labor cost a small percentages of gross sales of the final products.
The Begin of "LEPTON SILK"
After graduated from business school, Ms Wu moved to Hong Kong, worked in financial industries for 10 years. Hong Kong is one of Asia’s luxury goods shopping hubs, with full of top brand stores. But few people know those brands’ actual cost. So one idea popup - to start a new brand - let customers pay a much lower price than those from big stores, as well as, give the workers respect and a better life.
Development of the Brand
In 2018, Ms Wu quit her job, with a group of experienced workers, started a new brand - Lepton. Thanks to the platform like Etsy.com, and thousands customers' support, the brand grows very fast. The brand is now being registered in US and Europe. In 2020, the online store: www.mylepton.com is launched.
